SHAPE, PATTERN, COLOR, VALUE, TEXTURE…These are the things that excite me when I interact with the world around me. These are the tools that I draw from when I put my brush to canvas. In a painting, these abstract elements can come together in countless combinations to create a kind of visual dance…a melody for the eyes.
COLORADO ROOTS
Growing up in the Colorado Mountains, with a father who painted, I have been intrigued by this visual dance for as long as I can remember, but it wasn’t until 2006 that I was seriously bitten by the painting bug! Since that time I have studied my craft through reading and attending painting workshops with a number of nationally known artists. One of my best teachers has been nature itself, as I have spent countless hours outdoors honing my artists eye, and painting on location, or “plein air” as it is known in the art world.
TEACHING AND TRAVELING
I began to teach oil painting in 2012, and have found that I love to teach as much as I love to paint! Passing on my knowledge and passion for paint has become some of the best hours of my week. Recently, I have expanded my teaching to include plein air art workshops at art destinations around the world. I have found there is no better way to find creative inspiration, and awaken our learning capacities, than in art immersive travel.
